I chose Baucau, in Timor Leste(also known as East Timor), because I'd heard that it was a genuinely poor country, in fact, approximately one third of their population lives on less than two dollars per day. I chose Huancavelica (Wankawilka in the native Quechua language) in Peru, because it is an old mercury mining town.There are orphaned children who have lost their parents to mercury poisining,which is sad, and it's a very poor place.
